For years I had seen images of the water crisis and heard about it, however, there was always a disconnection. On a trip to Ethiopia in 2018, I saw it with my own eyes. It struck me hard. It was real and it was right in front of me. I instantly got hit with a wave of sadness, anger, frustration, discomfort and heart break.

About The Ripple Effect - 34


I actually had the privilege of meeting some of the women and children from the community of Bekyye on my trip to Ethiopia. We saw them collecting really dirty water as we were about to drive through the river they were collecting from. After chatting with them and seeing the hardships that they endure on a daily basis, RFW partnered with them in building a water well and a school.

This fundraiser isn’t about giving back. 

Run For Water focuses on partnership and sustainability. 

The community leads. 

With the help of local development workers, members of the community put together plans to address some of their greatest challenges. 

The entire community has to raise at least 10-25% of the total project cost amongst themselves.

I often wonder how I was so lucky to be born in a country where I can drink from the tap and some have to walk 8 hours a day to still most likely get a water borne disease?

…how is this reality? 

On Aug 7th I turn 34 and I have one wish. I hope that my community can help me raise $3434.34 for the community of Bekyye. 


A project assessment made from over the years shows; 

- Water wells built, starting from the first one in 2007, are all working well and past partner communities are thriving independently. 

- Water borne diseases are down to 0. 

- School attendance has increased by 300% 

- Women are directly and actively involved in the economic and political sector in their respective communities 

- Rape is reduced by 80% 


The positive impact just from having access to clean water is out of this world...a true ripple effect.

Only $35 can give a person clean water for LIFE. 

The direct beneficiaries are the 2200+ people who live in Bekyye, rural Oromia Ethiopia. The project will also serve residents of nearby communities who will send their kids to the school and collect water from the taps as well.
