Clean Water for Bekyye
Lauren Forrest / Clean Water for Bekyye
Hi friends! In November I will be travelling to Ethiopia with the organization Run for Water (runforwater.ca). I have been volunteering with Run for Water for the past four years and am beyond excited to visit our projects in action and see the incredible effects of clean water! The purpose of this trip is to raise money to build a new school and bring clean water to the people of Bekyye, a rural community in the Harana Buluk area of Oromia. Their population is 2,200 individuals and they have no access to clean water. We are proud to say 100% of the money raised by donating and fundraising goes directly into the communities to provide them with clean water and quality primary education. This means that children no longer will be forced to go on very long and dangerous daily journeys to get water that is full of bacteria and disease. With access to safe, clean, drinking water, children in the village can go to school, mothers can start businesses, fathers can water their crops, and children no longer die of waterborne diseases. This is a true partnership as Bekyye is raising 10% of capital needed to fund the school and water project. By creating community ownership and teaching the residents how to maintain the system Run for Water is helping to create sustainable projects for many years to come. Over the past 12 years, Run for Water projects have resulted in an increase in school attendance by 300%, have eliminated waterborne disease and reduced rape by 80% in the participating communities. So, dear friends and family, my ask to you is that you skip a drink or two at the bar this weekend and instead help to give the life changing resource of water. A little goes a long way and any amount makes a difference and begins the ripple effect.$35= Provides one person with clean water for life!$70= Provides two people with clean water for life!$150= Provides a family with clean water for life!$250= Provides two families with clean water for life! Many of you have been incredibly supportive of Run for Water in the past and I can't thank you enough. Thank you for considering partnering with me once again, I am so grateful for your support and can’t wait to update you with lots of pictures and stories from the people you are directly supporting!

We all have so much, we rich Canadians who don't realize we're rich. I believe in a world where we help each other out.
